trip report sans photos part 1

it’s appalling, i know, that i might write about a trip my family took and not post photographic evidence.

sue me.

we flew direct from philadelphia to salt lake city on october 11. we flew first class. we were ballers, as they say. all thanks to delta sky miles. first class for our son, too. obviously.

it was really fun. and how often do you get to say that about flying?

on wednesday we drove to hyrum to visit my husband’s grandmother. she’s 85 now. it’s always good to see her. and i think she and saxby had a great time rolling the ball back and forth between them while we all talked. throwing balls is not allowed in that larsen house.

that night we visited cousin james and stacey and their daughter esme. conversation was fun and lively. the byu-utah rivalry and 2016 election dominated. saxby also dominated with the tennis ball he found. for a while, he and esme colored at the table.

on thursday we had lunch with heather, her twins, and her son. at cubby’s. yummy food, it was. and good company. then we walked around city creek and temple square and almost got talked into buying an intellibed.

friday was provo/utah county day. cinnamon rolls from the village baker in lehi. (i have to admit that we hardly ate them because we had places to be. but what we did eat was delicious.) a visit to the byu bookstore. gear purchased for our little man. cinnamon bears purchased for me. salt water taffy and snickers for my husband. lunch at joe bandidos. just super super yummy and i would eat there every day probably. visit to cousin jane’s house to play in her backyard. drive up hobble creek and provo canyon while saxby slept and we sipped sodalicious. dinner with emily at good thyme after ice cream around the corner at a place whose name escapes me and i’m too lazy to look it up. then it was time to go to the byu homecoming football game. saxby was scared of the cougar roar at first but quickly changed his mind until it was his favorite part of the game. the cougar sound and the fireworks. then a drive back to bountiful with saxby awake and conversating the whole way.

i should mention that pretty much every time we got in the car, he asked to listen to adele. hello or water under the bridge or sweetest devotion. the expansion of his adele repertoire to water under the bridge and sweetest devotion took some doing on our part. if we weren’t listening to adele, he wanted to be listening to justin timberlake’s can’t stop the feeling.

saturday was more or less a day at home. i think. i actually can’t remember right now. i know my husband did a lot of homework that day. i know i went and bought him a dress shirt while saxby slept. i know i took saxby with me to get jimmy johns sandwiches. the rest is a blur.

except for the evening. in the evening, saxby and i drove to park city to meet emily. we ate dinner at the junction. burgers and pizza and fries and saxby flirting successfully with the ladies at the table next to us. then we drove over to the st regis at deer valley and took the funicular up the mountain. saxby loved the funicular. at the top we had smores. in front of a very windy fire. and back down the funicular. and a stop at the walmart for meds and a drive home with saxby talking the whole way. talking about the gorg coming to find us. you know. the gorg. from the movie home.

sunday was a visit to aunt lucile and uncle eric before church. and then a family dinner hosted by our hosts of the week, aunt mary and uncle richard.

monday we transitioned to idaho. i’ll write about idaho later.

Wow. No wonder people get tired on their vacations. But so far, this one was worth getting tired over.
